Stamped Steel Caster Rigs

RWM's 21, 22, 25, 31, and 30 series are manufactured from C1010 steel, which is a low carbon steel. These caster parts derive their shape through stamping, drawing, and forming operations. Stamped steel casters derive their strength and endurance qualities from two factors, the quality of the raw steel and the final shape of their final parts. For example, the shape of the legs enables the load to be distributed more evenly over a larger area of the caster and thus reduces stress on certain areas. This in itself adds strength to the caster.

Stamped caster ball races from RWM are case hardened. This process hardens the surface of the metal to a hardness of 500 on the Brinell scale. The effect of case hardening the ball races increases the yield strength on the ball races by approximately four times as opposed to no case hardening at all. Hardening the ballraces prolongs the normal life of a stamped steel caster. The hardened raceways allow the caster to withstand greater load and shock impacts over a longer period of time. Without hardened raceways, ballraces are likely to receive indentations of the ballraces when subjected to sudden shock impact. When this occurs on a continuing basis, the swivel will bind and the caster becomes inoperable.
