The Key Benefits of Stainless Steel Casters

There are many reasons to choose stainless steel casters for your business. Some of the primary benefits offered by our stainless steel caster designs include:

  • Corrosion resistance: Stainless steel casters will effectively resist corrosion. This makes them ideal for industries where the wheel will be exposed to water, chemicals, and other corrosive agents.
  • Durability: The durable design improves performance and minimizes maintenance, repair, and replacement costs.
  • Strength: Stainless steel casters are exceptionally strong and will support hundreds and even thousands of pounds without buckling or breaking down. Further, the design makes stainless steel casters exceptionally resilient and resistant to damage.
  • Antimicrobial: Stainless steel is antimicrobial, which makes stainless steel casters ideal for pharmaceutical operations, food production, and other industries where sanitation is critical.
  • Stable: Stainless steel casters are inherently strong, which makes them reliably stable. This makes them ideal for use in extreme hot/cold temperatures, including freezers or ovens.
  • Versatility: Stainless steel casters can be fitted to a wide range of carts, equipment, machinery, etc. This allows you to select stainless steel casters that will meet the needs of every aspect of your operations.

Stainless Steel Caster FAQs

How is stainless steel different from zinc-plated casters?

Zinc-plated casters are corrosion-resistant, not corrosion-proof. They are vulnerable to corrosion when exposed to moisture and chemicals, especially when the coating suffers damage. Conversely, stainless steel requires significantly longer and more sustained exposure to moisture, chemicals, etc., before it will corrode. This timeline can take years and even decades.

Are there different grades of stainless steel?

There are different grades, with 304 and 316 being the most commonly used for stainless steel casters. 316 is more expensive and features exceptional corrosion resistance due to the inclusion of molybdenum and nickel. 304 is less expensive and is comprised mostly of nickel, chromium, carbon, and manganese.

Is every component within a stainless steel caster made using stainless steel?

A caster has many components, including the raceway and wheel roller bearings, axle, nuts, kingpin, swivel fork, and, of course, the wheel. Some designs feature all-stainless construction, while others may be alternated to deliver the required performance and durability.
